Swiss take 5th place after beating Great Britain

The Swiss were clear-cut favourites for the fifth-place game against Great Britain after winning their first head-to-head encounter 8-2. They confirmed their role from the start, when Lasek, Cioffo and Uhr made it 3-0 in a three-minute span. Before the end of the first period, Lasek and Wyss added two more goals and it was obvious that the only question would regard the final scoreline. In the remaining phase of the game, four more goals were scored by Cioffo, Spahni, Canosa and Tanner to make it a 9-0 final.

COACHES´ REACTIONS

Anthony Rossdeutsch & Nicholas Streuli (SUI): “We started the game better than the last time we played the Great Britain. We set off with a good pace, scored a few goals early on. They got into the game as time went on, but we managed to come out on top. We had a lot of ups and downs throughout the tournament, if we stayed more consistent, I think we would’ve gotten better results. We often had a slow start, and conceded once or twice which usually killed our momentum for the rest of the game. But we improved every game and today, I think we did well. We’re looking forward to the next year’s tournament and I hope we will do even better.”

Callum West (GBR): „It started really tough for us, we took too many penalties on which we went down on the scoreline, we got better as the game went on, we just couldn’t get to our offensive rhythm. It was a good game, all credit to the Swiss, they were the better team. Overall, I am really proud of my team, they battled hard through tough scorelines and opponents.”
