Slovakia U16´s win over Czech Red marred by injuries

Slovakia U16 defeated Czechia U16 Red 6-2 in an emotional, sometimes physical contest. The game saw injuries to three Czech players, with Matyáš Jankůj going to the hospital with a suspected concussion. The game was tied 2-2 after an evenly played first period, but Slovakia took the lead in the 27th minute when a long shot through a crowd by Tobias Martinka found the net with a pile-up of players in the crease. Adding to the Czechs' displeasure, goalie Jindřich Hošek was injured on the play and had to leave the game. A power-play goal by Tomáš Šromovský less than two minutes later made it 4-2. Šromovský would eventually finish the scoring with a late empty-net goal to complete a hat trick.

COACHES´ REACTIONS

Robert Alföldy (SVK): "I think we saw fantastic ball hockey, first and foremost. We started again as we do every game, which means very well. Right from the start, we were doing exactly what we wanted. Of course, we were up against an excellent opponent, meaning they had their ideas about the game, and we had ours. In the end, we were leading, and they managed to turn it around. We had a fantastic second period, turning the score around, which decided the outcome of the whole match. I have to take my hat off to the boys because they worked hard from the first to the last second. It was fantastic. After all, it's a sport, so I firmly believe that the opposing player will be okay and that it won't be a serious injury."

Pavel Stefka (CZE): ""I have to praise the boys for this match, even though the result is harsh for us. However, the opponent took advantage of power plays, and we didn't. I'm sorry that the referee disallowed our goal to make it 3-1, but allowed Slovakia's goal. We lost three players in the match. Matyáš Jankůj probably has a concussion, goalkeeper Hošek has a knee problem, and the third player has a cut chin, but he will be okay."
