Slovakia beats Czechia in close and nervous game

The Slovak U18 team played their second game of the day against the Czechs. After a slow start, Pavlik drew first blood by scoring a power-play goal, giving Czechia the lead. In the next few minutes, both teams had several power plays and created good chances without any goals. With four minutes left until the second intermission, Semancik made the home fans happy by scoring the equalizer from the half line. The Slovaks took advantage of the momentum and Saxa scored their second goal with little more than a minute to go in the second period. In the third period, the Slovak team killed a two-man disadvantage and protected their narrow lead despite a nervous final few minutes.

COACHES´ REACTIONS

Ľubomír Líška (SVK): „It was a tough game on a tough day. Of course, the game against America took a lot out of us, but on the other hand, it made us want to win even more, and we showed it, because the guys fought hard and gave 110 percent, and the victory came. I'm glad we succeeded. Our goalie played excellently, but really every player did their job at 110%, and thanks to that, we won. We are looking forward to tomorrow.“

Vít Čapek (CZE): “We did not have a good start to the game, we were close to conceding, but then we scored. I think we took control of the game, but in the end Slovaks showed more heart than us. We lost the game ourselves.”
