The final game of the U18 World Championship was started brilliantly by the Canadians, who took the lead after only 35 seconds. Andy Knight opened the scoring after a pass from Noble. Subsequently, Canada had two power plays. In the second, when Stocklin in the penalty box, Kainoah Brankovic scored to make it 2-0 Canada after one period.

The Canadians kept the momentum going into the second period. In the 19th minute, Jackson Lovett beat U.S. goalie Bergeron to give Canada a stranglehold 3-0 lead. The Americans began desperately pushing forward but just couldn't finish, with Kailay brilliant in the Canadian net.

The USA had a chance on the power play early in the third with Maxx Hamelin sent off but couldn't make a go of it. And then, with American defender James Zazula Campbell in the box, the Americans pulled their goalie with still four minutes to go but Hamelin himself added Canada's fourth goal into the empty net. Two minutes later, Kyle Tucker added the fifth nail in the coffin.

With just over a minute to play, Chase Stocklin scored to break Kailay's shutout bid, but that did little to dampen the spirits of the Canadian players, who poured off the bench to celebrate when the final horn sounded.

COACHES´ REACTIONS

Eddie Costa (USA): "It was a really tough, tough match. We didn't start well, we were slow and we didn't get through it. It's a shame, I think this team should won this tournament. I wish I can help boys a little more."

John Silcox (Canada): “Words are hard to find right now. The Americans have a great program. They’ve worked together for years. We reviewed the video after they beat us in the shootout and made some adjustments, and I give them nothing but respect for two hard-fought games. I’m just really proud of the boys right now, battling through adversity, lots of injuries and bruises. But we’re happy to follow the U16s and bring it home. We reviewed the notes after the Slovakia game where we jumped on them early but then played way too defensively, and we were too tight in the first game against the Americans, but we changed our game plan and it worked.”
