Slovakia U16 edges USA in close battle

The Slovak team started on a stronger foot and within the first five minutes, they already led by two goals thanks to Sromovsky and Krajnak. The United States found the net too as DeWitt scored in the 14th minute. However, the Slovaks answered before the horn when Krajnak added his second goal of the game. The full-on offensive battle continued in the second period with Slovak prodigy Adam Alfoldy making the game 4-1 in favor of his team. The Americans got back in touch very quickly though, as DeFazio and Boyer cut the Slovak lead to just one goal. Despite early efforts by both teams, no other goals were scored in the remaining 25 minutes and Slovakia held onto their 4-3 lead to avenge their older counterparts who lost their game against USA earlier in the day.

Ryan Shannon (USA): "Really tough first game for us. Coming into this game, we knew it would be tough against the home team. Spotlight was on them, hopefully we can rebound. We were really disappointed with our first period, but moving forward, I think we showed what we’re made of in the second and third period. If we can put it all together, I think we’ll be fine.”

Róbert Alföldy (SVK): „It was a very tough game, but I think we were prepared very well. We had very good first period, except for one conceded goal. In second period we were a little bit hurt by penalties when we concedet another two goals. But after taking the timeout, we got back to our game and in the end we tried to keep ball away from our net. I have to praise my guys, they fought for the whole game and this victory belongs to them.“
