Czechia started World Juniors with a win over Canada

The Czechs started one of the two opening games of the tournament stronger as Kachlik scored on their first power-play. Czechia then added a second goal thanks to Pavlik, and shortly after, Kachlik took advantage of another power-play opportunity. The Canadians also scored on their first man advantage when their captain Schierau's shot beat all bodies in front of the net. The Czechs grabbed a three-goal lead back with Klaus' strike in the third period. Although Mackie sparked hope for Canada with 1:08 left on the clock, the Czechs had the last word as Palan secured the win with an empty-netter.

COACHES´ REACTIONS

Vit Capek (CZE): "We handled the tournament start excellently, it will boost the boys' confidence. We were the better team, had a few good moments, and successfully capitalized on our power-play training, scoring four goals from it. We came here definitely for the final, and we have made a good start towards it."

Jon Silcox (CAN): "We played too many penalties. The Czechs forced power plays, from which they subsequently scored. It’s hard to play when we were often shorthanded. We need to review the video and perform better in the game against Great Britain and throughout the rest of the tournament."
