Canada beats USA in rivalry game

Friday's final game featured the U16 tournament's two North American entries: Canada and the USA. The Canadians had a better start to the game with Ripka quickly opening the scoring, and three minutes later Saramak made it 2-0. Then the Americans switched to gear, creating a two-man power play advantage, but were unable to capitalize. Then Canada had a two-man advantage of their own and scored, thanks to another goal from Saramak. The Americans got on the scoreboard by Fink’s power-play goal to make it 3-1, but the Canadians did not let that spoil their day and answered with three goals from Reynard, Stewart and Snedden to seal the 6-1 victory.

COACHES´ REACTIONS

Tyler Anderson (CAN): “It was the least favorite game I saw from my team so far. We had a lot of undisciplined actions, I was not happy about it. Ultimately, we finished with 6:1 win and that’s what matters. It’s always rivalry game when we play together, so it is understandable. Refs had to keep the game under control, so therefore we saw so many penalties. We will prepare for Slovakia tomorrow, they are big, strong and fast and I expect our guys to compete as hard as they can.”

Ryan Shannon (USA): We knew who we were up against, we thougt we were prepared coming in. But lot of things we talked about, we just couldn´t execute and we got away from our gameplan. Too many penalties in this game, now we had to be focused on the next game.
