Czechia White wins dramatic shootout against USA

The Americans and Czechia White faced off for the best available position before the medal games. The US game plan began to take shape in 6th minute, with Nasuti scoring. In a tough and emotional game, there was a long break without a goal until Basilio, the US team's top scorer, added a second goal. The Czechs did not give up and started the third period like a hurricane. In less than 90 seconds, a quick double salvo from Kukla and Flechtner tied the score. In the dying minutes, the Czechs relied on goalie Adam, who also saved a penalty shot in overtime. In the penalty shootout, Czechs found their hero in Flechtner to cap the comeback.

COACHES´ REACTIONS

William Rennebeck (USA): „We knew it was going to be a battle. I feel we were the better team, but we made few mental mistakes that really cost us. Both goalies played tremendously and in the end, they were a little better than we were.“

Jakub Mokříž (CZW): „We didn’t start the game very well, we conceded two goals, but our strength prevailed and we managed to tie the score and send the game to overtime and then penalty shootout. It didn’t go our way very much. It was crazy, long, it was intense and we just prayed it would go our way. Americans deserve big hats-off, it was tremendous game. We expected them to be very tough opponent.”
