Slovakia beats Czechia 4-0 in first of two women games

In the first of two U18 women's exhibition games, host Slovakia defeated Czechia 4-0. The Slovaks went on the offensive right from the start but the first goal didn't come until the ninth minute, when Sofia Kováčová found a recipe to overcome goaltender Fajfrova. Subsequently, both teams failed to convert several promising chances. The second goal didn't come until late in the second period, when Bibiana Burikova converted a pass from her sister Simona. In the third period, the Slovaks added two more goals to round out the scoring. Dráfiová stopped all 17 shots she faced for the shutout.

COACHES´ REACTIONS

Petr Bárta (CZE): "It was a difficult match, because we didn't know what the Slovakian players would come up with. So we didn't have much to prepare for, but the girls had a quick preparatory camp yesterday after training. The match showed us that they can play on this level, they played great. We will see what will happen in the second match. We will give further tactical and strategic instructions. But we can certainly praise them."

Marián Hambálek (SVK): "First of all, I want to thank the Czech partners for bringing us together like this. As for the match itself, it was difficult from our side at the beginning. We are forming a new team, which consists mainly of U16 players, supplemented by a few older girls. The performance improved every minute, the girls gradually got used to each other. Most of the girls are here on the recommendation of their own clubs, where they are doing great job with them. I believe that this generation of players will grow up to be a winner."
