Czech women beat Slovakia 2-1 after shootout

In the second duel between the Slovak and Czech U18 women, the game was even in the opening period. Both teams had chances to open the scoring but both goalies, Pavlickova for Slovakia and Horinkova for Czechia, did not miss a single shot. In the second period, the Slovak team was able to get on the scoresheet - Sofia Podoláková was the goal scorer. We did not see more goals in the middle frame. The picture of the game did not change in the last period. The Slovaks were the more active team and had the upper hand in shooting; however, they failed to score another goal. Near the end, the Czechs got to a power play, on which they were able to score and send the match to overtime. Neither team managed to score the decisive goal, and then the Czech shooters had the more skillful hands in the shootout and won.

COACHES´ REACTIONS

Marian Hambalek (SVK): "In the second game, I feel like our girls didn’t even show up; we probably underestimated the Czech players in our minds. However, the preparatory double-header met our expectations in any case. We saw new young girls in action, and 13-14-year-old girls got to experience the pressure of such a game and wear the national jersey."

Kristina Macatova (CZE): "I think we learned from the mistakes we made in the previous match. Our performance was absolutely great, and we are very satisfied with how the game went. Before this match, we encouraged the players to communicate more with each other, to help the defense more, to follow up on rebounds, and to shoot more. The hard work throughout the entire game paid off for us. During the shootouts, we felt nervous, but we had confidence in our goalie, who didn't let us down, and we had excellent shooters. We are happy."
