Osborne believes in success against USA

The Canadian U18 team had a slower start, losing to the Czechs 6-3. But since then, it has been three straight wins for one of the favorites of the tournament. Their latest victims are the host Slovaks, whom they beat 5-2. Canada can seal a place in the gold medal game with a win against the USA. We talked about Canadian hopes with defender Brandon Osborne.

You came up victorious against the host team. How do you feel about the game?

We knew they are a really good team. They are fast, strong and intense, and playing at home always comes with extra motivation. But we were prepared and we came ready to play and I am really happy about the win.

A closer game was expected, but you started with a 4-0 lead. What was the key factor for that?

Our coach came in and let us know that this was the biggest game of the tournament for us so far. Playing the host team is always a special and intense game. We went in high flying and goals started to pour in, so we were off to a great start.

How will you prepare for the game against the Americans?

It will be again a tough game for us, but I believe it will be the same gameplan that we put in for every game in the tournament. Playing fast, hard forecheck, getting a lot of shots through and hopefully, we will come out successful.

Canada teams are known for being so-called “tournament teams,” starting slowly and flourishing in the final phase. Is that the case for this team?

I think so, yes. We are a tight group and we are super close. We know each other perhaps only for a week but we already feel like a family. I hope it will help us down the road.
