Czechs beat Canada in overtime, but it wasn´t enough

The Czechia Red team met Canada in the last match in the group. If the Czechs wanted to finish above Canada in the table, they needed to beat them in regulation time. The Czech team kept pace with the favourite in the first period. Canada didn't take advantage of its chances, however, and in the 10th minute, Hasal found Šimica and the Czechs led 1-0 after one period. In the second, Canada tried to equalize and created several chances, and Stewart finally scored. Even after the goal, the Canadians did not let up and a few minutes later they were ahead thanks to Flynn. In the last period, the Czechs pushed hard for the equalizer. They finally managed to tie it with five minutes remaining in regulation time. To advance to the final, however, they needed to win in 45 minutes, so they pulled their goalie for an extra attacker late in the third period. The came close on several occasions, but ultimately, it did not come. So regulation time ended with the score 2-2 and overtime followed. In it, the Czechs managed to score a decisive goal, but it was not enough for the gold medal game. Tomorrow they will play for third place against the USA, and Canada will face Slovakia in the final.
